Why are Biden’s Senior Advisors Leaving?

It would seem that the Biden administration is sinking, and senior advisors are running to the rescue boats in the face of crisis after crisis.

Senior Biden adviser Cedric Richmond is set to leave the White House next month to work for the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

The move, first reported by Politico, then later confirmed by Fox News, will see Richmond take on the role of co-chair of the DNC’s Voting Rights Institute.

In addition to serving as a senior adviser to Biden, Richmond served as the director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. Another Biden advisor confirmed that Richmond will take an advisory role at the DNC starting in May.

It’s worth adding that Richmond has been a close adviser to Biden since his time as vice president, and was one of the few African American members of Biden’s inner circle.

This is what Richmond had to say during a statement on Tuesday:

“I am thrilled that the President has entrusted me with helping boost the robust work already being done at the DNC to make sure that Democrats grow their majorities in the House and Senate, and increase the number of Democratic governors in state capitals around the country.”

Notably, this announcement comes just one day after Richmond criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow “squad” members. Calling them “f—ing idiots,” for their rhetoric and actions after the 2020 election.

These comments are not entirely surprising to those familiar with Richmond, however, as he has been routinely critical of his party’s association with the progressive wing.

For instance, Richmond disavows popularized slogans such as “defund the police.”

While other democrat talking heads like Elizabeth Warren are saying their party needs more progressive policies if they hope to have a shot at midterms.

Richmond appears to believe the total opposite. As he has been reportedly frustrated with the progressives and their promotion of “pro-socialism language.”

It will be interesting to see how this shake-up affects the DNC’s messaging going into 2022. Because as of now, it seems they are still trying to figure out which direction they want to go.

Will the party led by Biden become more progressive in the coming days before midterms? Which, understandably, has been extremely unpopular thus far.

Or will the party aim to become more moderate? Which, again, is continuously regarded as a “losing strategy” by top party leaders like Warren. Despite poll numbers arguing that voters want less radical and unprecedented policies.

Only time will tell as the DNC begins its uphill battle to regain support before what many expect to be a red wave in 2022.
